James Baty is currently Technical Director for the Tilt-Up Concrete Association. Combined with his degree (BARCH) in Architecture from Iowa State University, Mr. Baty has added a career long emphasis on thermal design efficiency. He served ten years with Composite Technologies Corporation, Boone, IA as Technical Services Manager where he was responsible for the integration of thermal efficiency with commercial construction through engineering, design consultation and construction supervision.

Mr. Baty had developed thermal design and engineering tools including isothermal planes analysis programs and implementation programs demonstrating the benefits of mass construction as referenced in ASHRAE 90.1. His research has involved the use of thermal modeling programs for energy-efficient design such as VisualDOE, Physibel and other mechanical engineering programs. Mr. Baty has also contributed to full-scale thermal testing of insulated concrete sandwich panel constructions with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

As Technical Director for the TCA, Jim is currently the secretary and a voting member for the ACI 551 - Tilt-Up Concrete Committee. He also serves as the Chair for ACI's 332 - Residential Concrete Committee and is a voting member for ACI 306 - Cold Weather Concrete and ACI C650 - Tilt-Up Certification.
