Schattdecor, Inc.

Schattdecor, headquartered in Thansau, Germany, has manufacturing facilities operating in Germany, Poland, Italy, Russia, China, Brazil, Turkey and now the United States. As the first Schattdecor plant constructed in the U.S., every detail needed to reflect the company’s directives and traditions.

The distinctive concrete and glass building, comprising both office and manufacturing facilities, is constructed of architectural Tilt-Up concrete panels. Each panel is articulated with an array of accent reveals, coordinated and aligned with each member of the curtain wall system used throughout the office and printing halls. The design group knew that concrete for load-bearing walls was the material of choice for this facility due to its versatility, price, strength and availability. Utilizing Tilt-Up for the building's construction allowed the design and construction teams to meet the construction schedule and budget.

Exterior concrete walls at the printing area were constructed with a layer of insulation between the structural portion and 'topping' layer of concrete and, due to constraints, were required to be erected from the exterior of the building. These insulated panels fit the mechanical requirements of the space, while providing a damage-resistant surface on the interior. Concrete walls were further utilized to enclose the three 13-by-17-by-18-foot bays used to clean the printing cylinders and other equipment used for ink, and are load bearing for the storage mezzanine above the bays. Multiple large knock-out panels were designed into exterior walls of the building that will allow for the future expansion of the building.
