When Vision Fitness needed to add office and warehouse space to an existing Tilt-Up office building, the company once again selected Tilt-Up for the expansion.
It was important for the new 145,000-square-foot addition to match the existing building (constructed seven years prior), so Newcomb carefully chose integral colors for the insulated, exposed-concrete panels—a warm brown “cinnamon toast” shade punctuated with white for the exterior, and a rich coffee tint for the interior. By sandblasting the exterior panels and casting deep corrugations into three of the panels, the contractor was able to provide textural interest as well.
To allow power cables to connect easily to workstations, the office portion of the building was designed with a raised floor, which meant the slab at the open office area had to be recessed so the floor elevations would match.
Although the office space within the addition is small (just 25,000 square feet), innovative features such as large windows topped by a spandrel panel, radiant in-floor heating and sawtooth skylights prove that small Tilt-Up buildings can be constructed on a reasonable budget (just $130 per square foot) without sacrificing style.
