The City of Huntsville Industrial Development Board & Aerojet Rocketdyne chose Turner Construction as General Contractor for construction of their new 136,000 SF Advanced Manufacturing Facility located in Huntsville, Alabama. The facility will be used to produce subcomponents of the AR1 rocket engines, composite cases for rocket motors and 3D-printed rocket engine components. The building structure consists of steel framing along with 131 insulated tilt-up panels ranging from 14" to 16" thick. The building includes a high bay area where panels are in excess of 62' tall and weighing over 110,000 pounds. Turner's Self-Perform Operations group (Huntsville Office) completed the entire concrete package for this project (foundations, slab, tilt-up, site concrete) with foundations starting in March 2018 and the last panel erected in August 2018.

This was Turner SPO's first venture into self-performing insulated tilt-up panels. Our project was one of the first to utilize a partnership between Meadow Burke and Thermomass called Complete Tilt for the fast track construction of this facility with great success.
