The Utah Career Center goal was to create a learning environment where plumbers, pipefitters, welders and HVAC&R technicians could learn about current and new technology and equipment. The design uses the accent Tilt-Up walls, which have been designed with a 54-inch lean at the ends to identify the administration/common areas from the laboratory wing and classroom wing. Classroom corner windows were created and emphasized through mitered edges of the Tilt-Up panels at all building corners for a more refined aesthetic appeal.
The durability and life cycle benefits of Tilt-Up contribute to the maintenance plan and their pending LEED Gold certification. To avoid having surface mounted conduits running on the walls, electrical conduits in exposed panels were designed to be cast into the concrete to provide a clean "finished" appearance.
The strength of the panels also allowed for great flexibility in window openings which ultimately contributed to 80 percent of the occupied building spaces to receive a minimum 25 foot-candles of natural daylight while more than 90 percent of the building has access to natural views.

The Tilt-Up Achievement Awards were established to honor projects that use site-cast tilt-up concrete to introduce new building types, advance industry technology and provide unique solutions to building programs. Winning entries illustrate the variety, beauty, and flexibility of tilt-up construction.
