As the premier Caterpillar dealer for the Salt Lake City area, Wheeler Machinery’s new office/warehouse facility in Hurricane, Utah, needed to be as durable as the equipment they sell. That, combined with a desire to use the thermal mass of concrete to provide a structure that would stay comfortable in a desert environment, led the company to once again choose Tilt-Up.
The resulting design incorporates sand-blasted, integrally colored panels to provide a pleasing complement to the desert surroundings while requiring little to no maintenance. The centerpiece of the building is its conical-shaped entrance, achieved via Tilt-Up panels cast on a specially shaped casting bed that resembled a skateboard park.
Going from conception to completion in just a year’s time, the facility houses office and warehouse space, a truck shop, a heavy equipment shop, a paint shop, a dynamometer room and a storage mezzanine. Its proven excellence includes a 2008 American Concrete Institute (ACI) Excellence in Concrete award.
