Located in Broomfield, Colo., the 50,000-square-foot Children's Hospital North Ambulatory Surgical Center/Clinic began its construction in December 2007.
The design and construction team worked to keep in-line with the Children’s Hospital philosophy—that the care environment is just as important as the care itself. The owner challenged the team to design a facility without the “clinical” feel so prevalent in other facilities of its nature.
The Design/Build team generated a variety of creative design options for the owner including the use of Tilt-Up concrete exterior wall panels. By choosing the Tilt-Up option, the project was not only completed approximately four to six weeks faster than traditional structures, but it also was more cost-effective. With the rising cost of steel, Tilt-Up was found to be the most budget-friendly structural solution. Further, the use of cast-in brick, block and recesses enabled the team to produce the desired look.
