This design-build project involved several months of careful planning and engineering before work began on-site, leading to a successful outcome. To ensure a safe and organized work environment, 5S principles from the Lean Construction Institute were utilized from start to finish.
Due to panel sizes and crane monthly rental, we needed to eliminate the leave out panels. Our team created three openings in the panels large enough to allow cranes to enter the building. These openings were infilled while the panels were standing to close up the building. We also needed to use crane mats with steel plates in the crane path due to ground pressure bearing limitations.
The panels were extremely heavy necessitating a 440 ton crane to meet the GC's safety regulations. The largest insulated panels were 17" thick. The building slab could not be utilized for casting, which resulted in all panels being formed on casting slabs. The heavy panel weights resulted in needing an engineered sacrificial footing to brace the panels that were not braced by helical piers.
