Modern Heart and Vascular is a 100,000 SF medical facility in Humble, Texas, located 20 miles northeast of Houston. The building features four floors (each spanning 25,000 SF) to support a wide range of cardiology procedures as well as an ambulatory surgery center. The panels feature large arched window openings, creating a bold architectural element that distinguishes the building’s design from its surroundings.
Production began shortly after Hurricane Beryl moved through the Houston area and, despite the challenges posed by the storm’s arrival, the team effectively navigated the weather-related delays to stay on schedule. The large arched window openings added complexity during the formwork stage, requiring non-standard techniques. Even with these challenges, the team maintained progress and upheld quality and budget goals.
The most technically demanding feature was the inclusion of large arched openings in many of the panels. These unique forms prevented the use of conventional finishing methods, requiring much of the finishing to be completed by hand to meet architectural standards. Several panels were designed to be stacked, which added to the coordination required during fabrication and lifting. All panels were braced using Helical Anchors, which provided a secure and efficient anchoring solution suited for the site conditions.
