Exposed integral colored tilt-up panels define CP Plaza, one of St. George, Utah's premier retail centers. Comprised of a 16,000 square foot stand-alone flex-retail space and a 26,000 square foot warehouse addition to the existing showroom, the project boasts energy efficiency and durability in a unique architectural expression that compliments the desert region.
The architecturally creative, yet simple use of tilt-up concrete applies variations in both height and plane of the panels, sandblast patterns, multiple integral colors, all elegantly contrasted with metal panel features. Raised cast-in-place concrete planters provide more dimension to the entry spaces as well as seclusion opportunities for retail outdoor seating. Concrete is featured and celebrated for what it is in every aspect of the project – not only architecturally appealing, but also virtually maintenance free and very energy conscientious.
Due to an extremely tight site and cement shortages meticulous pre-planning of crane locations and sequencing as well as intense QA/QC had to take place.
The perpendicular panes defining entryways were problematic, the issues were solved with diligent BIM.
Because of the great visibility of the site, this concrete tilt up project has and will continue to generate interest for other companies to use tilt up as a means of construction that that will last many years and require little maintenance. Increases in population in the Washington County area are demanding shortened construction timelines for all types of facilities. Tilt-up concrete is an ideal technique to satisfy both the time demands for buildings and tight budget constraints.
