The Windsor project located in Monroe, NC was a full design-build project, including Civil. The project consisted of 569,000 SF with a 21,000 SF mezzanine that included a 2-story remote office, numerous single-story offices, restrooms, a paint booth, and dust collection room. The project faced unique challenges during the build. One of them included working with our subcontractor team to install a new 20" water main which would replace the old 18" one that ran directly through the building pad. Since this line supplied water to a local hospital and schools, it could not be shut down and a complicated switchover process was coordinated from the old line to the new line with the local water department. Also, since the client manufacturers windows and doors, we were tasked with matching their aesthetics. The building exterior entry contains a wood product called Fiberon which extrudes from the building and provides a beautiful wooden look to the entry. We used their products for all storefront locations as well as all interior doors and glass. This proved complicated as it required use of many kinds of materials and openings that were not similar. In addition, we encountered numerous offsite DOT road improvements. These required meetings to properly coordinate logistics for the increased traffic anticipated by the new facility. Over 500 jobs were created in Monroe and Union County communities as a result of this project.
