Diode Dynamics new headquarters building was designed to be as unique as the company itself. As one of the leading automotive lighting manufacturers in the country, Diode's new space incorporate a variety of spaces to support its operation. With showroom, laboratory, and engineering space requirements throughout, the building had to be carefully crafted to provide the fullest attention to detail in order to ensure the functionality and relationship of each department was met. As such, the final design reflected the intricate processes required for the manufacturing carried out in this facility.
The integration of a two-story office component with a production and warehouse building while making the facade of the building appear cohesive and intentional utilizing minimal materials (paint, metal, concrete) to stay within budget was a major challenge and ultimate success of the project.
Sandwich panel design was utilized (8" structural, 2" insulation, 2" skin) throughout. Four different high contrasting paint colors were applied to various panels to meet the design intent. Very unique panels with wide openings were designed for the entrance canopies to “pass through" thus creating an interesting visual display of horizontal and vertical planes. Creative use of integrating the steel entry canopies as well as adjusting exterior wall profile to act as lateral bracing elements of the tilt-up entry elements to make the tilt more creative feature elements that are colored in red.
The impact of this project was huge for the community as it brought in approximately 100 jobs with future plans to potentially double in scale.
