Icarus Brewing is a microbrewery that opened its original location in Lakewood, New Jersey 7 years ago and prides itself on providing great beer and memorable experiences for patrons. Riding the popularity of craft beer, the organization developed this new facility in Brick, New Jersey, dubbed “Icarus 2.0," to replace its existing facility with four times the space and a new, modern experience—including 30 different beers. The new facility also allows the company to triple its production capacity.
The decision to use tilt-up construction for the brewery's expansion into a brand new, state-of-the-art facility was an easy one. The team knew tilt-up could deliver the aesthetics they desired, while also providing efficiency and durability and being environmentally conscious. The building was constructed with composite insulated tilt-up wall panels and required complex architectural finishes to achieve the architects' and owners' visions.
Much of the interior space has exposed tilt-up panels which was able to meet the energy code by utilizing composite insulated tilt-up panels. The exposed concrete and lift insert pockets add the the industrial feel of the tasting room. The exterior had extensive architectural features including: light-gage mansurd trusses, integrally cast return panels to create additional planes, diagonal rustication patters, wood shiplap formliner, and spandrel panels to allow for large opens to access the beer garden. As the ultimate sign of appreciate for this unique space Icarus Brewing created an imperial IPA beer named "Its Official" with a rendering of their new facility on the can.
The 24,600-square-foot project includes a tasting room, a temperature-controlled cooler space, as well as production and office space. Guests can enjoy private parties on the 2,700-square-foot mezzanine or in the Barrel Room. The new facility has space for more than 150 patrons inside and 100 people outside.
