Portocork is dedicated to the art and science of producing the highest quality natural cork since 1982. The 44-employee North American distributor for Portocork International of Portugal outgrew the capacity of its 44,000 SF plant and sourced RMW to design its new facility.
Designed to contrast Napa Valley’s industrial landscape, Portorcork’s structure embraces a surprisingly angular farmhouse motif to expand the expectation of manufacturing tilt-up. The project, hailed for its “aesthetically pleasing” design by the Napa County Planning Commissioners, is a 44’-4” tall, single-story tilt-up warehouse/distribution/office building on a 2.49-acre site with 40 parking stalls for employees and visitors.
The bold, sloped, lower roof, emphasized by a vertical line of inset glass panels, protrudes 37 inches to highlight the building’s corrugated metal and glass entry. Above, the 28 ft setback connects to a dynamic roof-line that elevates the building’s frame.
