Grand Strand Medical Office Building

Grand Strand MOB is a 96,320sf, 5-story Medical Office Building located on Grand Strand Regional Medical Center’s campus along US 17 in Myrtle Beach, SC. The region's growth and a need for high-quality healthcare created a demand for a quality facility to be constructed. This new structure did just that, providing local residents access to primary care physicians, cardiologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, and trauma surgeons at a critical time. Conveniently located within the developing medical campus, hospital executives are proud to present their patients with all of these services under one roof. Lapped panels and corner panels exceeding 86 feet in height provide the building’s elevations with interest. Mitered corners, formliner, reveals, and recesses were detailed to accompany additional applied ornamentation to create the architect’s vision. Structurally, heavy reinforcement designs for these tall load-bearing panels created a complicated installation and required collaboration between the engineer, contractor, and experienced field crew team members to create a successful plan of action. Knockout panels were added to allow for larger openings for machinery, equipment, and materials to move in and out of the building easily during construction. The use of BIM to conquer the complexities of the simultaneous panel and structural steel erection sequence, while bracing with 62-foot braces, was critical to the schedule and other ongoing site activities. Although this would be the first 5-story single panel erected in South Carolina, General Contractor, Mashburn Construction Company, knew that the most efficient way to construct Grand Strand MOB would be with the use of Tilt-Up. Finishing ahead of schedule and on budget, this decision paid off for Mashburn, the developer, the hospital, and the region.
