A designer and manufacturer of large-format nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) lithium-ion cells and systems for the growing electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) market, Dow Kokam, enlisted the services of the architect to design a state-of-the-art facility to include manufacturing space, clean room facilities, warehouse area, office, amenity and support areas. The design is inspired to be a well-engineered machine - elegant, purposeful and unadorned. Externally, the volume is broken down to horizontal bands which are delineated by tall slit windows used to guide visitors with natural light around an internal perimeter path. A simple white, glass encased office building provides a terminus to the long, gray band wrapping the plant and an elegant entry for guests.
