The Academy Headquarters building is a four-story tilt-wall building located in Katy, Texas. Accompanying the HQ building was a one-story Town Hall tilt-wall building and a six-story precast parking garage. Speed of construction was the name of the game for this one. All buildings, including the full build out of the four-story, had to be done in a span of 11 months whereby safety and quality were paramount. Construction commenced while drawing and construction packages were being released simultaneously. This proved to be a challenge that was overcome by the construction team.
Plucked down on an existing and operational site, site logistics and constraints played another huge role in the difficulty of this project. Whether it was the high voltage transmission power lines running on the west side of the site, the distribution lines running along the north side or the layout and timing of how the one-story Town Hall building interfaced with the four-story HQ building, casting and erecting panels proved to be a challenge. Placement of casting beds had to be strategic so as to not jeopardize the safety of the construction team and the overall schedule of the project.
