This three-building facility was cited as exemplary by the firm the school board hired to audit their construction projects. Constructed by The Haskell Company, Jacksonville, Fla., the 211,000-square-foot facility serves as a marine-magnet-curriculum school for 1,750 students. The tilt-up buildings include a multi-purpose building which also serves as a hurricane shelter.
The 250 exterior panels support the roof and floor system, as well as provide the principal lateral load resisting system by acting as wind shear walls. The two-story panels weigh up to 70 tons each. A marine motif is produced on virtually all of the panels. The Haskell Company provided all contracting, architectural and engineering services.
