This is the second winning entry of Colonnade Development of Nepean, Ontario. The structure covers 72,000 square feet and the exterior is totally finished with sandblasted concrete panels. Speed of construction, an energy efficient envelope, and flexibility got future expansion were the criteria which led to the choice of tilt-up construction.
The panels received a 'medium' sandblast finish exposing a white 5/8-inch marble aggregate imported from Southern Ontario. Panel reveals were 2-inch wide, ¾inch deep, and sloped at 22 degrees. The non-standard slope created a crisper cleaner reveal. Horizontal accent bands 8-3/8 inch wide with a smooth finish were used to give the building dimension and create a 'stepped' effect on the front and rear elevations. The entrance support panels were cast entirely of the face mix to present a uniform appearance to all sides of the panels.
StonEng Construction Consulting Corp. of Nepean, Ontario was the general contractor and LJB Engineers and Architects of Dayton, Ohio was the engineer.
