Originally designed as a concrete masonry project, the Winter Garden Village incorporated Tilt-Up throughout its construction to save the owner time and money.
With more than half a million square feet to be built in only a ten-month period, the subcontractor faced many obstacles. For example, the extremely aggressive schedule called for several trades to overlap, thereby creating a challenge with panel bracing. To remedy this challenge, the subcontractor worked closely with the general contractor to ensure that the construction was coordinated between all of the trades to keep the project running smoothly. Additionally, the subcontractor was also able to re-use casting slabs in order to work with the tight space limitations. Another challenge was architectural features including thin brick, which was applied to several storefronts.
To create the feel of real brick, a special formliner was used to mold the thin brick exterior. The project’s magnitude, extremely tight schedule and the many architectural details of the concrete work proves the advantages of using Tilt-Up.
