With Tilt-Up construction completed in a mere three months, the team used Tilt-Up as one of the main and vital components to the Blue Ridge Gatorade Facility. The owner desired LEED Gold Certification, and Tilt-Up construction offered a solution combining regional materials (concrete) with recycled content and increased energy-efficiency gained by thermal mass. This combination produced the largest LEED™ Gold Certified Food and Beverage project in the world.
The interior of the processing facility uses approximately 42,000-square-feet of troweled Tilt-Up panels, providing a smooth finish to address hygienic concerns. The façade is articulated by large punched openings in the Tilt-Up panels and a pilaster effect, at the front office/entry elevation, is created by a panel depth of 14-inches. Tilt-Up construction ensured that the design responded to the owner’s commitment to sustainability by providing a facility that was inviting, highly functional, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally responsible.
The goal at Blue Ridge was to double per-employee production rates, and this was achieved in the first year of operation.
