When the architect for this project sought to incorporate their signature free-form shapes into the ventilation panels of a parking garage, they relied upon Tilt-Up panels for execution, as cast-in-place concrete would have been too time-consuming and costly.
Detailed renderings and 1:1 templates of the top and bottom panel curves were devised, which were then used to set the form boards. To connect the Tilt-Up panels to the cast-in-place structure, they used embed plates in the face of the columns as well as the floor slabs.
Once the garage structure was complete, the embed plates were surveyed three dimensionally, and adjusted in the field to accommodate variances in the as-built plate locations. Keeping in mind the environment, the panels were designed to withstand the high wind pressures common in the coastal location, as well as to resist vehicular impact in areas where they extended above the garage floor. Hidden connections provide a seamless appearance for the white panels, while steel louvers running between the panels add an eye-catching contrast while facilitating ventilation.
