Totaling 80,952-square-feet, Supermercados Bravo – a local chain of supermarkets in the Dominican Republic -- wanted a functional and durable building that easily catches the attention of the community to invite patrons. The contractor demonstrated the versatility of Tilt-Up walls in the building’s facade with five main elements: a spandrel panel, two panels supporting it and two porticos.
Another remarkable element is an 110,000-pound spandrel suspended in the air and supported by an elevated cantilever slab. The front Tilt-Up staircase, which resembles a supermarket car, has caught the eye of other construction companies and has served as the supermarket’s marketing tool, attracting attention and tourism. Footing to panel erection was completed in only nine weeks.
Tilt-Up concrete construction was selected because of its durability, ease of maintenance, speed and versatility.
