Career Tech High School in St. George, Utah, is the state’s first standalone career and technical education (CTE) school, serving approximately 550 students across diverse pathways including engineering, construction, culinary arts, robotics, and more. Built by Mahas Construction, the facility features flexible, specialized classrooms designed to support immersive, hands-on learning. The school redefines CTE by creating dynamic environments that adapt to evolving educational needs. Career Tech has earned several prestigious awards, including the 2024 Outstanding CTE Facility from Learning By Design, the 2023 Most Outstanding Tilt-Up Project from Utah Construction & Design and the 2023 Award of Excellence from the AGC of Utah.
This project commenced during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly impacted material lead times and introduced complex on-site working conditions. Despite these challenges, our team and subcontractors demonstrated adaptability and resilience, making the necessary adjustments to successfully navigate and complete the project during an exceptionally difficult period.
One of the most distinctive architectural features of the new Career Tech High School is the use of formliner, created reveals along the exterior walls of the gymnasium on the north, west, and south elevations. Extending nearly 25 feet in length, these elements introduce visual interest and design sophistication to a portion of the building that might otherwise appear unremarkable.
