AD Henderson University School Bldg 26 K

Summarize the project's program, features and achievements?

The architect's intent was to create a building where the upper section appears to float. This effect was achieved by recessing the lower portion of the side walls inward. The lower section features closely spaced reveals and bright colors to draw attention and provide contrast. The upper portion is clad in metal panels attached to the face of the tilt-up walls. Both ends of the side walls cantilever beyond the first-floor footprint, enhancing the floating illusion. The design team enclosed the two shorter ends of the building with inward-leaning spandrel panels.

What obstacles were overcome related to the schedule, budget, program, specification, site, etc. on this project?

The biggest obstacle was converting the sculpture like building into a feasible tilt-up project. We worked in conjunction with the architects and engineers to make this happen.

Please communicate any engineering complexities or unique features of the panel design for this project?

The biggest difficulty was to structurally design and temporarily brace/support a 65 foot 8 inch wide leaning spandrel supported by cantiliever/recessed inwards side panels and connected to auditorium seating casting place deck and roof structure. The spandrel panel weighed 195000 pounds.
