This 18,900 SF hangar includes two-story corporate offices and approximately 3,910 SF of warehouse space. The site offers direct access to the taxiway at Scottsdale Airport, with a hangar door that opens to an aircraft staging area larger than the hangar itself. The design features muted earth tones and grays, allowing the building to blend seamlessly with surrounding facilities. Architectural elements are inspired by the theme of “Flight,” reflecting the character of the surrounding Airpark. A mix of materials, including concrete tilt-up walls, further enhances the integration with the local environment.
All construction projects demand careful coordination, detailed planning, and strong attention to detail to minimize obstacles—though challenges are virtually inevitable. For Falcon Nest Hangar, one of the most significant challenges during planning and scheduling was limited access to the job site, due to its proximity to the airport and the small lot size. To overcome this, the entire project team engaged in thorough pre-planning and close collaboration with all trades to ensure efficient execution. Any errors within the construction stages of the project would have significant impact in the project’s timeline, cost, and overall success.
The site is trapezoidal in shape, and the office area was designed to follow this unique geometry, enhancing both the building's aesthetic and the visual interest of its façade. A second-floor exterior patio overlooks the aircraft staging area, offering views of the owner’s aircraft, the McDowell Mountains, and aircraft activity at Scottsdale Airport. The building features concrete tilt-up panels with reveal lines that complement the exposed structural steel, aluminum accent bars, and other architectural elements at the front office, creating a cohesive and modern design.
