On every level, the Kohler STERLING manufacturing plant was big. The building was over 1 million square feet and 75 feet at its tallest point. It combined office, showroom, manufacturing and warehouse space all under one roof.
For Suntec, the tilt-up process had several complex issues, including a whopping 420 panels for the site. This resulted in Suntec requiring a high volume of waste slab space to pour the panels, which in turn created obstacles for the lift crane. Another challenge was that there were two interior rooms that required panels, so the team needed to ensure those were able to occur in the proper phase to limit disruption to the erection of the main building panels.
The largest panels on the job got up to as much as 348,300 pounds, so there were critical lifts executed that demanded extra attention and preparation from the team.
The facility produces Kohler's STERLING brand bath and shower fixtures and is approximately one million square feet on 216 acres with room for future expansion. The multi-million dollar capital investment features an innovative manufacturing facility, ancillary warehouse, distribution center, office space, and cafeterias. The site also includes a best-in-class showroom for customers and visitors to view leading-edge products.
The facility provides a major economic boost for Pinal County, with more than 400 new jobs created and the potential for future expansion.
