Auto Metal Direct (“AMD”) Distribution Center building is located in Gainesville, Georgia, just north of the Mall of Georgia off Interstate 85. This project included 316,262 square feet of 6” fiber reinforced slab on grade, 97,758 square feet of 9.25” thick tilt panels (103 total), ramp walls, dock pits, and 49,000 square feet of concrete paving, sidewalks, & equipment pads. Our scope of the project included 201 tons of rebar, and 10,500 total yards of concrete. Construction of AMD was completed in September of 2019. The entire project took 11 months, and was completed under budget and on schedule.
One of the most notable aspects of this project is the creation and execution of the AMD logo (measuring 40’ x 130’) cast into the building’s frontmost-facing tilt panel. This was achieved by the creation and arrangement of 139 piece custom-cut Styrofoam stencil pieces. All pieces had to be installed backwards in order for the logo to be at the right orientation once the panels were erected. Once the logo had been laid out and installed, we (Southeast Concrete) came out with the drone to fly over the logo to make sure that everything was installed properly, and make any adjustments needed. Placement was re-checked with the drone prior to the concrete placement, wherein the panel concrete was poured over the foam that, once removed, would leave an imprint that would be later painted. Such a large logo is visible from the interstate (I-85) and provides huge visual impact for the company.
The end result of this project is impressive, and beautiful. As a company, Southeast Concrete is proud and grateful to be part of it. It was an immense pleasure to work with Carroll Daniel Construction Company, Ernst Concrete, HD Supply/Whitecap, and all of the other vendors that helped make this a reality. This is our work, our lives, and our legacy.
