With architectural services provided by Studio+, the Gulf Coast Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit is designed with a homelike approach with three separate units, each housing an open-concept living room, kitchen, nurse station and 25 private patient beds with convenient access to the occupational and physical therapy rooms.
Architecturally, the design of the building’s exterior, utilizing the Tilt-Up method of construction, includes many pop outs and depth differences that provide dimensional interest to the look of the facade. The entrance at the elbow of the building provides a Porte Cachere for easy patient access to the facility into a contemporary inviting entrance lobby with modern fixtures and high end finishes.
The construction schedule hardly allowed the time to utilize the permanent slab on grade to fabricate panels, so most of the panels were built and cast outside of the building on temporary concrete casting beds before we could access and cast the slab. Once the slab became available, we quickly fabricated a handful of panels on the slab footprint. Please see aerial photos included with the submittal. By sequencing the project as such, we were able to bring in the structure almost four weeks ahead of schedule, while winning safety awards issued by the Contractor!
Tilt-up panels were also utilized for structural sheer walls, elevator shaft and stair towers, including flat lid panels, which helped stabilize structure’s design.
Due to the success and satisfaction of our client, we were able to win a new customer and negotiate additional projects with them.
That’s the name of the game!
