This new custom-built corporate head office was developed and constructed for Dorigo Systems (“Dorigo”), a long time Burnaby business and winner of the 2016 Business of the Year by Burnaby Board of Trade. Established in 1988, Dorigo is an Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider and one of Canada and the Pacific Northwest’s leading contract manufacturers of Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA), serving some of the most respected OEM’s in the industry.
Outgrowing their current 45,000 SF facility, Dorigo approached Beedie with the need for a larger space to accommodate their flourishing business and growing team. After careful consideration, it was decided that Dorigo would build their new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters in Glenlyon Business Park, located in South Burnaby. In collaboration with Chris Bozyk Architects and Dorigo, Beedie refined the design to ensure every detail of Dorigo’s new headquarters matched their reputation as a leader in the technology industry. Composed of 82 insulated concrete tilt-up panels, aluminum composite panelling and significant glazing, construction of this 106,160 SF facility began in January 2020 and completed in early June 2020. 74,380 SF of the total area is dedicated manufacturing space, which is all located on a single warehouse level to allow for collaboration throughout the manufacturing team, from precision assembly to final quality control. The building’s 28’ clear ceilings, optimized layout and cutting-edge equipment will increase Dorigo’s operational efficiency and production capacity which translates into even greater speed, quality assurance, and prompt delivery for its customers.
As the facility serves as both a manufacturing hub and corporate headquarters, a comfortable office environment was critical to the success of the project. A two-story, 31,779 SF office space was designed at the front of the building, with over 10,000 SF of vision glass installed on the surrounding front façade. Staying true to Dorigo’s focus on technology and innovation, an electronically controlled self-tinting glazing system was installed on all office glazing. This advanced system allows full light and temperature control while maximizing energy efficiency, thus eliminating the need for interior blinds and significantly improving the view corridors for all office staff.
Dorigo is set apart from the surrounding neighbourhood by the unique port cochere entrance way that frames the front of the facility. As the building is located on the bend of North Fraser Way, this feature is highly visible to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The facility is located in a high-profile research and development area and backs onto Riverway Golf course. Special attention was made to ensure all façades of Dorigo are architecturally treated and loading components are discreetly integrated into the building.
The striking architectural design, visual impact, and advanced building technology of Dorigo’s new corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility is a benchmark for the type of product that Beedie will continue to deliver throughout Glenlyon. Dorigo’s new home is a state-of-the-art, carefully planned facility that will support the company’s success as they continue to grow as a leader in BC’s tech industry.
