The project was a design-build contract for a new 188,000 square-foot manufacturing facility for The Knapheide Manufacturing Co. in Quincy, Illinois.
Knapheide's new line of military-grade aluminum truck bodies will be manufactured in the new facility. The new plant is located directly south of the company's existing 480,000 SF manufacturing facility, which was originally constructed in 1995.
The scope of work for this project consisted of a new 188,000 SF building manufacturing facility, including a 10,500 square foot office area. The single-story building was constructed using concrete tilt-up wall panels and steel framing at the manufacturing portion and metal studs walls, steel frame, and curtain wall system and glazing at the office area.
The building is fully-sprinklered, including a foam suppression system at the hazardous material storage area. Other items of work included mechanical, electrical, plumbing, low-voltage, compressed air lines, and hook- ups for the owner-provided and installed equipment.
Site work included grading, pavement, site lighting, flag pole, monument signage, landscaping, personal vehicle parking, trailer storage parking, storm water basins, and utilities connections.
The new facility will provide 250 new positions, including manufacturing, installation, and various support roles.
