This new manufacturing facility for CCL Label, completed in 2017, was a design-build effort led by general contractor Wesex Corporation with LJB Inc. performing as the structural engineer. The completed facility will be used for the production of extruded plastic tubes and plastic labels for brand name beauty products, including lotions and soaps, produced at adjacent manufacturing facilities within the Personal Care, Health and Beauty Park in New Albany, OH.
The exterior envelope of the building incorporates sandwich-insulated structurally-composite tilt-up wall panels on three elevations. The fourth elevation incorporates steel framing and insulated metal panels in anticipation of a future expansion that will double the manufacturing area. In addition to performing as the general contractor, Wesex self-performed the construction and erection of the tilt-up wall panels. Wesex is known for their addiction to technology, and field layout was entirely driven by data extracted from the architectural and structural Revit models.
The exterior of the building is highlighted by an extensive pattern of reveals in the wall panels along with glass curtain wall at the entry vestibule and lobby. Adjacent to themain entrance is a metal-panel skinned accent wall measuring 36-feet tall. The interior includes an open, modern office and a small second-story employee break mezzanine that is accessed by a curved, cast-in-place concrete stair without any column support.
