This 36,000 square-foot office and warehouse for the Blind Center of Nevada (BCNV) was built next to the original BCNV building, which will remain open, and provides a 15,000 square-foot warehouse, an upgrade from the 3,000 square-foot warehouse space in the original building. The project was funded by public and private donations and took 10 months to complete. A major feature of the new building is the 1,200 square-foot commercial kitchen. The Blind Center of Nevada plans to use this kitchen to implement new culinary arts programs to teach members basic skills to master-level culinary skills.
The Blind Center of Nevada's electronics recycling program will also be moved to the building. This program encourages businesses to hand in expired electronics for a disposal fee of $30. The electronics recycling program makes up 50 to 60 percent of the BCNV's funding and provides employment to people who are blind.
The center also boasts classes for visually impaired children and teens, a new computer lab, a fitness center with tutors and trainers onsite and a large meeting room that can be rented out.
