Constructed almost entirely of tilt-up concrete panels, the 26,441-square-foot W. W. Clyde corporate office was a design-build project expressed through carefully crafted concrete and streamlined glass detailing. Board-formed tilt-up provided the ideal medium to pay homage to the company's 90-year history in civil construction and pouring concrete structures against rough-sawn board forms. These unique board-form tilt panels were carefully crafted and involved pouring the concrete over actual rough-sawn wood to absorb its texture and shape. The unusual forming process called for varied thicknesses in the panels (crafted recesses for steel structure), for electrical conduits to be embedded within the panel, and for a number of 90-degree returns for building corners. Structural breaks that allow the building's interior to be engulfed by natural daylight required exactness of placement and were made possible by the steel tubing that could run through crafted panel recesses. The W. W. Clyde corporate office exemplifies tilt-up's high-end capabilities.
