Located in Katy, Texas, the expansion and renovation project at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital features the first six-story tilt-up hospital in the United States. The building was erected 30 feet from an existing hospital, thanks to the development of a panel size to facilitate erection on the tight site. Even a momentary shutdown of the existing hospital was out of the question, and service remained uninterrupted during construction. Additional challenges included the extent of detail in the tilt-up panels and the project's punch and curtain wall glazing techniques.
