An 1895 painting by Michael Summers of the 2,362-seat Ryman Auditorium, photographed in 2021 by Carol M. Highsmith, hangs in the historic concert hall known as the “Birthplace of Bluegrass Music.” Located in Nashville’s Lower Broadway neighborhood, the Ryman was home to the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974 and continues to host performances during the city’s lighter tourist seasons.
