It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John G. Hart, P.E., S.E. after a long and courageous battle with cancer. John was an integral part of Peak Engineering for twenty-five years. His technical knowledge and business savvy helped grow Peak into a nationally recognized engineering firm. John’s work with tilt-up design and with the ACI Design of Slab on Ground Committee was invaluable to the engineering community.
John was born and raised in Indiana. He graduated from Purdue University and began his career working as an in-house structural engineer for Allison Gas Turbines in Indianapolis, Indiana. After his time at Allison, he worked for K. Gene Miller & Associates and began to focus on building design. He relocated to Colorado and joined Peak in 1997. In 2009, John took over as President and majority shareholder of the company. The timing couldn’t have been worse with the Great Recession, but John guided Peak through and worked tirelessly to maintain a core staff. Thanks to John’s leadership, Peak survived the downturn and is now more successful than it has ever been.
John worked throughout his career to improve the industry. He was an active member of several ACI committees including the slab on ground and the tilt-up concrete groups. He was heavily involved in the Tilt-up Concrete Association (TCA) as well. John was named a Top 20 Influencer by the TCA and was awarded their highest honor when he was inducted into their College of Fellows in 2020.
John stepped down as President of Peak Engineering on January 21, 2022. He left the company in very capable hands thanks to his guidance and training.
Peak has established a scholarship in conjunction with the Tilt-up Concrete Association in John’s honor. Donations may be made to the fund by going to this web address: https://tiltlab.org/scholarships/hart/
