The tilt-up industry’s top professionals gathered at the Colorado Convention Center to honor those organizations, people and projects that have successfully illustrated the variety, beauty and flexibility of tilt-up construction. The 10th annual Tilt-Up Awards Gala, sponsored by Nox-Crete Inc., was presented on night 1 of the 2022 Tilt-Up Convention and Expo.

“Winning an award not only gives credibility to the construction type, but it helps give credibility to our firm as well,” said Chelsea Serrano-Piche of Powers Brown Architecture.

Awards presented included the Alphonse Engelman Safety Awards, Tilt-Up Achievement Awards and the TCA Professional Awards. The TCA also inducted new members to the TCA College of Fellows. Congratulations to Scott Bunney of KB Concrete Systems, Shane Miller of DIVCON Inc., and James Williams of AE URBIA/J.M. Williams and Associates, Inc.

In addition to this year’s award-winning projects that were announced, there were very special moments throughout the evening, including Keith Cobell and Sherman Balch’s presentation from Extollo International, and the introduction of the John Hart Honorary Scholarship Endowment from John Hart himself. This year’s David L. Kelly Distinguished Engineer Award went to to Karen Hand, president of Needham DBS. The TCA also awarded Lintel with the Irving Gill Progressive Architecture Award, and Jason Cooper of Arch-Con with the Contractor of the Year Award. Tim Corrigan with White Cap brought home the Murray Parker Memorial Award. Finally, Frank Adames with Contratistas Civiles y Mecanicos was the recipient of the Peter Courtois Memorial Award.

“It’s an honor to receive such a prestigious award, and it’s a privilege to serve the tilt-up community,” said Karen Hand. “I appreciate all the contractors, architects and engineers who have put their faith in me over the years, and I thank David Kelly and Jeff Needham for being mentors to me and so many others,” said Hand. “I especially want to thank my team at Needham DBS for all their efforts to grow tilt-up bigger and better right alongside me.

Cheers to the next generation!”

Congratulations to this year’s winners!
