Concrete Strategies Takes the Outdoor Demo to New Levels

In 2018, the then-TCA president, Tim Manherz, challenged his young, high-potential leaders, Chase Carter and Hector Valenzuela, to lead the TCA Outdoor Demo as part of the 2018 Tilt-Up Convention and Expo. TAS Commercial Concrete Construction LLC took the event to the next level with Chase and Hector’s leadership and, in 2019, Rick Galloway and his team at Martin Concrete Construction Inc. raised the bar even higher in Atlanta. The outdoor demo at the Tilt-Up Convention and Expo has seen young professionals emerge into leaders who have become invaluable to the success of this event, and this year was no exception.

“This year’s outdoor demo was the best yet,” said Joel Foderberg of IconX LLC. “Concrete Strategies set a new standard for how to set up a successful event!”

With Barclay Gebel’s team at Concrete Strategies in the driver’s seat, the 2021 outdoor demo, sponsored by 3M and White Cap, was yet again taken to the next level.

“It was an honor of a lifetime to be elected [as] the 2021 TCA president and for Concrete Strategies to host the 2021 Tilt-Up Convention and Expo in our hometown of St. Louis, Missouri,” said Barclay Gebel of Concrete Strategies. “We constructed our first tilt-up panel in 1989 on a project located in St. Louis, Missouri, and to get the opportunity to host the TCA convention 32 years later in our own yard was priceless,” said Gebel. “We are proud of the “Show-Me” state of Missouri and gave it our best to make this the best outdoor demo yet!”

Taking place in the “Show-Me” state, the outdoor demo was all about showing off the latest and greatest tilt-up technologies, and there is no better way to learn about new tools, techniques, and products than to see them in action firsthand. Attendees got an up-close look at new formliners in action, tested out some new rebar tying tools, tried out a new adhesive product, checked out some new connection details, and lots more at the 2021 outdoor demo.

“Business in the front, party in the back! The outdoor demo is the most interactive time at the convention with in-your-face demos and entertainment,” said Cliff Saunders of GluDown Inc. “Manufacturers getting to show their stuff while getting to know contractors on a cool, casual level with drinks and music is a one-of-a-kind experience!”

Concrete Strategies took hosting the outdoor demo up yet another notch by introducing “Meet the Machines” in St. Louis. Attendees were invited to get up close and personal with a variety of heavy equipment used on today’s most demanding tilt-up jobsites. Operators were on hand to discuss features, give their reviews, and share their tips for operating and maintaining these massive investments.

“The outdoor demo continues to be an indispensable industry event, and it keeps getting better each year,” said Brad Nesset of Leviat. “I can think of no better opportunity for the many members of the tilt-up industry—designers, contractors, and manufacturers—to be able to come together and discuss new techniques and products and actually be able to see them employed in a setting and at a scale that deepens everyone’s understanding of the advances occurring in tilt-up construction,” said Nesset. “It was a great way to kick off the annual convention!”

The 2022 outdoor demo will take place during the Tilt-Up Convention and Expo in Denver, Colorado. Watch for more information, coming soon!
