TCA Announces Winners of 2013 Alphonse J. Engelman Safety Awards

The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) – the global authority for the tilt-up industry – has announced the winners of the eighth annual safety awards.

The Alphonse J. Engelman Safety Awards Program honors Al Engelman, a TCA past president and board member as well as a long-time supporter of the tilt-up industry. Engelman helped introduce this industry awards program that now bears his name.

Developed to enhance the TCA’s overall mission to improve the industry through recognition and education, this program emphasizes the safety commitment and achievement throughout the membership. In 2007, this program was renamed “The Alphonse J. Engelman Safety Awards Program.” The winners of the 2013 Alphonse J. Engelman Safety Awards were recognized during TCA’s Annual Convention on Sept. 30 in Houston, Texas.

“TCA’s safety committee has been hard at work on several new resources for the industry,” said Barclay Gebel, chair of the TCA Safety Committee. “These awards help draw attention to the program, our efforts and of course, the success of those making safety their ultimate priority.”

TCA’s Safety Awards Program recognizes companies based on the following categories: Best Tilt-Up Safety Achievement Award, Most Improved Safety Achievement Award, and Zero Lost Time Accident Achievement Award. This year’s winners include a variety of industry contractors:

  • Best Tilt-Up Safety Achievement Award/General Contractors: E.E. Reed Construction, L.P., Sugar Land, Texas and The Korte Company, Saint Louis, Mo.
  • Best Tilt-Up Safety Achievement Award/Tilt-Up Contractors: Hakanson Construction, Inc., Brea, Calif. and Keystone Concrete Placement, Houston, Texas
  • Most Improved Safety Achievement Award: Divcon, Inc., Spokane, Wash.
  • Zero Lost Time Accident Achievement Award: AML, Inc., Arch-Con Corporation, B.D. Stevens, Bob Moore Construction, E.E. Reed Construction, Hakanson Construction, SiteCast Construction and The Korte Company

Submissions were accepted from active TCA members only and consisted of self-performing as well as general contracting companies for any of the six categories.
