The Tilt-Up Concrete Association Board of Directors has initiated the formation of a task group charged with refining conversations and practices surrounding the employment of various high-end finishes for tilt-wall applications. “With ever-expanding opportunities for tilt-up construction, the evolution of high-end finishes available for tilt-wall panels is becoming increasingly important and even essential,” said Jay Stevens, a member of the new task group.
The group is chaired by TCA past president and top-20 influencer Tim Manherz. “Tilt-up is an established method known for its resilience and economic advantages. The creative minds in our industry, along with significant technological advancements, have allowed the application of tilt-up for high design to soar and become more commonplace,” said Manherz. “We believe that with additional collaboration among suppliers, architects, and contractors, we will see continued exploration coupled with increasingly economical execution of these high-end finishes.”
As an initial focus, the group will work to update the TCA Guideline Specifications document to include more detail surrounding high-end finishes, specifically formliner and thin brick. Additionally, the group will facilitate communication between contractor, architect, and supplier members, exploring opportunities for improving finishes at joints, corners, and terminations while developing best practices related to scheduling, estimating, detailing, and constructing high-end finishes.
