Bob Moore Construction Receives 2009 AGC Merit Award – LEED Gold Pioneer 360 Business Center Construction Project Marks Fifth Straight Year of Industry Awards

Bob Moore Construction has received the 2009 Merit Award for Construction Excellence from TEXO, the north Texas chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America and Associated Builders and Contractors. The award was given for the Pioneer 360 Business Center in Arlington, Texas. This three-building, 1.16- million-square-foot business park along State Highway 360 in Arlington is the largest LEED Gold Core and Shell Industrial project in the state of Texas. The project began with the demolition and asbestos abatement of the abandoned, 800,000-square-foot Festival Marketplace mall; more than 95 percent – 91,634 tons – of steel, concrete, asphalt, copper and aluminum coming from the mall were recycled rather than sent to landfill.

Pioneer 360 Business Center provides a dramatic skyline to State Highway 360. Buildings A (194,845 square feet ) and B (152,800 square feet ) are designed to support rear-load warehouse, office, showroom and flex tech operations for up to four independent tenants per building. The buildings feature a combined 96 loading dock bays and ribbon glass bands on the front walls, with two-tone paint finishing and stone facade entrances on the exterior. Building C is an 815,820-square-foot cross-dock distribution center designed to house one to six tenants. It is finished with a two-tone paint scheme, with more than 100 trailer storage spaces. Building C includes 158 loading dock bays.

Tilt-Up construction played an important role in Pioneer 360 Business Center’s success, LEED certification and ultimately, in winning the award. “The fact that this project was LEED Gold certified was a key reason why this project earned the Merit Award, and Tilt-Up construction played a fundamental role in our ability to achieve that certification,” said Ed McGuire, Vice President of Construction for Bob Moore Construction and Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA). “We were able to leverage the advantages of tilt-up construction to meet the project’s aggressive schedule and qualify for LEED Gold. This was particularly valuable for us on the Pioneer 360 Business Center project.”

With this award, 2009 is the fifth consecutive year where Bob Moore Construction has received formal honors from industry organizations and publications. Previous awards have included AGC General Contractor of the Year, AGC Safety Director of the Year, Texas Building Branch/AGC Outstanding Construction Award, multiple AGC Summit and Merit Awards, Texas Construction Magazine’s Best of Award, and TCA’s certificates of recognition for superior safety performance.

“I take great pride in the fact that we have been able to assemble a series of awards over an extended period of time,” said McGuire. “Any recognition for a specific project is something we appreciate. When we can point to a regular, consistent track record of excellence as recognized by the top organizations in our industry, I believe that goes beyond the particulars of the specific projects being honored. An extended record of honors and awards speaks to the quality of our normal, day-to-day operations, our safety program and our company in general. One award is great; five years of awards is a tradition, and one we’re proud of.”
