Tilt Lab to Host Special Screening of Schindler Space Architect

Acclaimed documentary on Rudolph M. Schindler to be presented during the 2026 Tilt-Up Convention & Expo, followed by a discussion with director Valentina Ganeva

Tilt Lab will present a special screening of Schindler Space Architect during the 2026 Tilt-Up Convention & Expo in Salt Lake City. Following the screening, director Valentina Ganeva will join attendees for a discussion exploring the making of the documentary, Rudolph M. Schindler’s architectural legacy, and the continuing relevance of his work to contemporary design practice.

Narrated by Meryl Streep and featuring interviews with leading architects including Frank Gehry, Thom Mayne, and Steven Holl, Schindler Space Architect examines the life and work of one of modern architecture’s most original voices. Through archival research, restored imagery, and conversations with architects, historians, and preservationists, the film traces Schindler’s development of “space architecture,” his relationships with Frank Lloyd Wright and Richard Neutra, and the enduring influence of his work on modern residential design.

For the tilt-up community, the documentary holds particular significance. Among Schindler’s best-known works is the Schindler House—also known as the Kings Road House—completed in Los Angeles in 1922. Constructed using site-cast concrete wall panels, the residence is recognized as one of the earliest and most influential architectural applications of tilt-up concrete. Rather than treating concrete solely as a structural material, Schindler employed it as a medium for architectural expression, creating interconnected indoor and outdoor spaces that helped redefine residential design and continue to influence architects more than a century later.

The screening reflects Tilt Lab’s commitment to advancing architectural dialogue alongside technical innovation. As the philanthropic partner of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association, Tilt Lab cultivates emerging techniques, technologies, and ideas with promising applicability for the tilt-up concrete construction industry. Supporting opportunities to engage with architecture’s history, theory, and cultural impact is an important part of that mission.

The program will be offered at no cost to architects attending the Convention and is intended to encourage meaningful conversation among architects, engineers, contractors, students, and others interested in the evolution of the built environment.

Additional details, including the date, time, and location of the screening, will be announced as the 2026 Tilt-Up Convention & Expo program is finalized. The event will take place during the Convention, October 21–23, in Salt Lake City.
