Powers Brown Architecture has promoted Jeanette Shaw, AIA, RID, LEED AP, and Kristen Stapper, AIA, RID, LEED GA, to the new title of Associate. With the new position, the architects also will become Shareholders in Powers Brown Architecture, an international professional services firm practicing architecture, interior design, programming and urban design.

“We established this new category of recognition for staff who’ve been leaders, team players in roles we have asked them to take on, innovators in the quality of design or technical knowledge, resources to the firm’s institutional knowledge, extraordinary managers of our clients’ accounts and have done so over the course of years,” said Jeffrey Brown, FAIA, Founding Principal and CEO.  “I’m proud to announce Jeanette Shaw and Kristen Stapper on behalf of my partners as our inaugural class of Associates.”

Shaw, a graduate of the University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design, is a licensed architect, registered interior designer and LEED AP certified with 20 years of experience working on project types ranging from industrial to office, interiors, laboratories, mixed-use, and luxury high-rises. Recent project highlights include Houston’s Arabella and Marlowe luxury high-rise condominiums and Kelsey Seybold Clinics across Houston. Starting as an intern at Powers Brown Architecture, she has worked the majority of her career there, rising up the ranks to Project Architect, Project Manager and Director of Quality and Sustainability. Shaw has built a national reputation for her technical proficiency in quality and commands a team that comprises one of the premier Quality Programs among architecture firms in the U.S and Canada. She is a highly in-demand speaker and has discussed Quality Programs at multiple conferences, including the AIA National Conference on Architecture. Shaw also serves as an officer on the Construction Quality Executives Council (CQEC) Board of Governors, where Powers Brown Architecture serves as the CQEC’s only architecture firm representative. As an active CQEC Member, she has the opportunity to work with many of the most influential General Contractors in the industry to collaborate on what makes construction drawings successful and to implement those elements into Powers Brown Architecture’s documents through constant Quality Program improvements. Shaw is working to encourage more design firms to start their own Quality Programs to change the industry through her speaking opportunities and CQEC outreach.

Stapper, a licensed Architect, LEED Green Associate, and Registered Interior Designer, leads the technical side of the firm’s project coordination, production, and the construction administration phase handling project scheduling to maintain work balance.  She has more than 10 years of architectural experience, eight of which at Powers Brown Architecture, starting as an Architectural Intern to Senior Project Manager. Her diverse project types include industrial, retail, office, medical office, interiors, and high-rise residential/hospitality, such as the newly opened landmark Thompson San Antonio and Arts Residences at the Thompson Hotel on the San Antonio River Walk.

A graduate of Texas A&M University with a Masters of Architecture and Bachelor of Environmental Design, Stapper has proven to be an integral part of Powers Brown Architecture’s success in the industrial sector, working on major warehouse and distribution projects for Amazon and UPS, as well as many speculative projects within the Port Crossing Commerce Center and other significant build-to-suit and speculative industrial developments.  A mentor for her team, Stapper prides herself on her modeling skills in Revit and working through the many small details and coordination items that encompass a project. “Nothing is more rewarding than creating design solutions, especially cost-effective ones, and seeing the client’s visions come to life,” she said.  Powers Brown Architecture, a professional services firm with offices in Houston, Washington, D.C., Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Toronto, and St. John’s, Newfoundland, maintains a diverse architecture design, space planning and urban design practice that spans from regional to international projects. Founded in 1999, it has built a reputation for specialized design and technical superiority, producing award-winning work and gaining recognition from local, regional, and national organizations. The firm has designed more than 250 million square feet since its inception and has won more than 100 design awards as well as having 45 buildings with LEED certification. In addition, the firm’swork, architects and design staff have been featured in Architect and Texas Architect, and various other design and business journals in the U.S. and Canada. The firm is a signatory of the AIA 2030 Commitment to create a Sustainability Action Plan.
