By Mitch Bloomquist, for the Tilt-Up Concrete Association
The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) has released the inaugural edition of the Tilt-Up Market Index (TUX), a quarterly report designed to establish a clearer, more consistent understanding of current conditions across the tilt-up construction industry.
Developed to serve as a barometer for tilt-up activity, sentiment, and emerging trends, the TUX report aggregates input from professionals across the design, construction, and supply chain to produce a data-driven snapshot of the industry that is based on survey responses from members and the Association’s long-standing reputation for integrity and insight. This first report, covering the second quarter of 2025, introduces a new platform for reflection, comparison, and dialogue among those shaping the built environment through tilt-up.
Structure and Content
Each edition of the report presents a set of recurring components intended to highlight both quantitative and qualitative indicators of market performance. These include the following:
- TUX Score: A composite index reflecting overall tilt-up market activity over the past quarter, across all disciplines.
- Sentiment Score: A measure of confidence, capturing the outlook of industry professionals based on recent performance and projected conditions.
- Regional Breakdowns: Data segmented by geographic region to reveal local variations and concentrations of growth or contraction.
- Trends by Building Type: Analysis of demand and activity across key market sectors, including industrial, institutional, commercial, and others.
- Forward-Looking Summary: Observations from the TUX Advisory Panel that highlights shifts, concerns, and signals to watch in the coming quarter.
- Annual Tilt-Up Panel Output Estimate: A calculated estimate of total square footage of tilt-up panels placed in North America during the previous calendar year, based on annual insert sales data.
These sections work together to provide a structured yet dynamic view of the current landscape, allowing readers to both track industry momentum and position their own experiences within a broader context.
Methodology and Participation
Data for the TUX report is collected via a quarterly survey distributed to the primary contact for each TCA member organization. Respondents are asked to assess their recent workload, current project activity, market sector trends, and general outlook. Names, companies, and member IDs are recorded to ensure the integrity and accountability of the results.
In cases where the designated contact is not best positioned to respond on behalf of the organization, the survey can be forwarded internally with clear instructions for coordination. This process ensures both consistency in participation and flexibility in capturing informed responses.
The TUX initiative is not simply a data-collection exercise—it is a structured means of reflecting the experience and perspective of those embedded in tilt-up practice. As participation grows and trends are tracked over time, the report will become an increasingly valuable tool for benchmarking and forecasting.
Expanded Insights for Sustaining Members
Sustaining members of the TCA receive access to TUX+, an expanded edition of the TUX report. This enhanced version includes the following:
- Deeper regional and sector-specific breakdowns
- Extended trendlines and visualizations across multiple quarters
- Full commentary from the TUX Advisory Panel offering interpretation and implications beyond the raw data
This additional content is intended to support more strategic analysis for firms engaged in long-term planning, business development, or investment decisions.
Looking Forward
The Tilt-Up Market Index represents a new chapter in the TCA’s ongoing effort to support informed dialogue and professional growth across the industry. By providing a consistent framework for understanding tilt-up market conditions, the report encourages a more grounded and collective response to the opportunities and challenges ahead.
