Baseball has always been a game of numbers. For more than a century, measures like batting averages, earned run averages, and on-base percentages have been used to evaluate performance. Yet any student of the game knows these statistics, while useful, are incomplete. A player’s value cannot be reduced to a single number. Statistics require context—strength of schedule, conditions of play, the dynamics of the team around them. Even the most advanced sabermetrics demand interpretation.

Our new Tilt-Up Market Index (TUX) operates in much the same way. It is not a definitive statement of the industry but a structured lens through which to view it. The TUX score, sentiment measures, and regional breakdowns provide meaningful indicators, yet their real value emerges only when considered together, situated within the lived experiences of the design, construction, and supply community. Like baseball statistics, these measures illuminate patterns, but only dialogue, comparison, and professional judgment reveal their true significance.

The purpose of TUX is to establish a consistent framework for understanding market conditions in tilt-up construction. It is both a mirror, reflecting the activity and confidence of our members, and a compass, pointing toward emerging opportunities and challenges. Importantly, it underscores the Association’s central role: not to dictate outcomes, but to curate, aggregate, and amplify the collective voice of our industry.

Over time, as successive reports accumulate, TUX will become an increasingly powerful benchmark—much like how a season’s worth of statistics provides a clearer picture than any single box score. Its value will depend on the breadth of participation and the seriousness with which we interpret its findings.

I encourage you to view TUX not as an answer sheet, but as an invitation to inquiry. It is a resource that gains strength from our engagement, our willingness to contribute, and our readiness to interpret with care.
