Engineering is a discipline of continual refinement. As research expands, building performance expectations evolve, and new applications emerge, engineers are constantly reassessing accepted practices, validating new ideas, and translating technical knowledge into better buildings. The engineering presentations featured at the 2026 Tilt-Up Convention & Expo reflect that continual pursuit of better solutions.
As the first installment in our Shared Ascent education preview series, The Engineer’s Perspective offers a look at the mindset shaping this year’s program. While each presentation addresses a distinct technical topic, together they reveal a profession committed to inquiry, evidence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Supporting the Engineering Perspective
The Tilt-Up Concrete Association gratefully acknowledges Needham DBS y Cojines y accesorios para hormigón SureBuilT for their support of Shared Ascent | The Engineer’s Perspective. Their commitment to advancing engineering excellence and professional education helps make this year’s Convention program possible while fostering the exchange of knowledge that continues to strengthen the tilt-up industry.
Engineering in Practice
The program begins by revisiting the engineering fundamentals that remain essential to successful tilt-up construction. From there, the conversation advances into the practical realities of modern practice, exploring thermal reliability, the behavior of insulated wall panels, and the role of research in informing engineering decisions. Other sessions examine how engineering contributes to sustainability—not as an isolated objective, but as an outcome shaped by material selection, detailing, and long-term building performance.
The perspective extends beyond refining existing practice. Presentations exploring residential applications challenge conventional assumptions about where tilt-up can be employed, while an international case study examining the growth of tilt-up construction in Brazil demonstrates how engineering leadership, education, and collaboration can accelerate adoption of the system in emerging markets.
Collectively, these presentations illustrate an important characteristic of engineering within the tilt-up industry: advancement is rarely achieved in isolation. Every engineering decision influences architecture, construction, manufacturing, and ownership. Research informs design. Design shapes construction. Construction determines performance. The strongest projects emerge when these disciplines work together toward a common objective.
That interdisciplinary exchange is the foundation of Ascenso Compartido. The engineers contributing to this year’s education program represent one perspective within a broader conversation that continues throughout the Convention as architects, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, and owners contribute their own expertise. Together, those conversations move the industry forward—not through individual breakthroughs alone, but through the steady accumulation of shared knowledge.
Future installments in the Ascenso Compartido series will explore how architects, contractors, manufacturers, and industry leaders each contribute their own perspective to the continued evolution of tilt-up construction.
