Announcing the John Hart Honorary Scholarship Endowment

Español | Translation Sponsored by TCA

The Tilt-Up Concrete Association, Peak Engineering, and Tilt Lab are pleased to announce the establishment of the John Hart Honorary Scholarship Endowment.

John Hart, FTCA, began his academic career studying architecture/pre-engineering at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He quickly realized he was not in the right program nor at the right school, so he transferred to Purdue University, a Land Grant university in West Lafayette, Indiana. At Purdue, he undertook the study of civil engineering, graduating from Purdue with a BS in civil engineering. However, when he transferred to Purdue, he lost his scholarship. Accordingly, he wants to see this scholarship assist structural engineering transfer students or students who change their discipline to major in structural engineering.

John has been with Peak Engineering, a Denver metro area consulting firm with 30 years of national structural engineering experience, since 1997. He is a principal in charge and is responsible for performing preliminary analysis and design, comparing various structural systems. He coordinates the overall efforts of the structural design team and is responsible for quality control. He has extensive experience in the analysis and design of a wide variety of building structure types, including warehouses, schools, office buildings, and other commercial buildings, working with various materials including steel, cast-in-place, tilt-up and precast concrete, concrete masonry, and wood.

“John has been an invaluable part of Peak Engineering for 25 years,” said Nicole Laiho, PE, chief operating officer of Peak Engineering. “He has been one of the driving forces behind Peak’s success in the tilt-up industry and is well known within the TCA community. We wanted to find a way to honor his years at Peak that was truly meaningful, and we felt this was the perfect opportunity. Peak is excited to partner with the TCA to make this happen.”

Applications will be available at tiltlab.org this summer, and the first scholarship will be awarded in the fall of 2022. Donations can be made to this fund at tiltlab.org.

As the philanthropic partner of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association, Tilt Lab’s mission is to cultivate emerging techniques, technologies, and ideas with promising applicability for the tilt-up concrete construction industry.
