Concrete science that has served the building industry well for decades is being transformed by new research, breakthroughs in technology and a better understanding of its performance. Speed of construction that impressed previous generations is now considered average as new levels of efficiency emerge. And once thought of as luxuries, sustainability and resiliency now come standard.

We’re expecting more from our materials and technologies. Owners are expecting more from their builders and designers. Communities are expecting more from their neighbors and developers are expecting more for their dollar.

The tilt-up method, already known for economy, speed and durability, is becoming more economical, faster and stronger. The system is more sophisticated today than it has ever been. Concrete is once again on the cutting-edge. Architects, engineers, educators, suppliers and contractors are collaborating on new solutions and the industry as a whole is rising up to exceed expectations of today’s world and anticipate those of tomorrow.

The 2019 Tilt-Up Convention in Atlanta will celebrate the spirit of the city’s symbol, the phoenix. Education will be focused on the rising expectations of those charged with creating our built environment, those designing and building our churches, schools, libraries and places of work. Speakers will feature examples of new technologies, new research and new techniques designed to propel the industry to new heights. You will leave inspired, armed with valuable knowledge and awareness of new resources, connections and tools to rise up and exceed expectations in your own work, company and market.

“A mythical bird that never dies, the phoenix flies far ahead to the front, always scanning the landscape and distant space. It represents our capacity for vision, for collecting sensory information about our environment and the events unfolding within it. The phoenix, with its great beauty, creates intense excitement and deathless inspiration.”
The Feng Shui Handbook, feng shui Master Lam Kam Chuen

Atlanta is the only city in North America to have been destroyed as an act of war, when General Sherman’s army burnt it to the ground in November of 1864. Estimates of the physical damage varied, but An Indiana soldier’s diary entry simply stated, “We have utterly destroyed Atlanta.” The city rebuilt itself from the ashes — which is why the city symbol is the phoenix.

Mitch Bloomquist

Expectations are rising.
