Don Musser, the first executive director of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association, passed away on September 25, 2011.\u00a0\u00a0 Don was the leader assembling a group of tilt-up contractors and engineers interested in forming the TCA in 1985 and 1986. Don was selected as the first executive director of the TCA and held that position until his retirement in 1992.<\/p>\n
Prior to his involvement with TCA, he was employed at the Portland Cement Association where he worked for 21 years.\u00a0\u00a0 While at PCA Don served in several positions including manager of the low rise commercial market, manager of structural engineering, and director of construction methods.\u00a0 He retired from PCA in 1989.\u00a0 Prior to PCA Don spent 19 years in private industry as a consulting engineer.\u00a0 He consulted on numerous projects across the United States and in several foreign countries and led or participated in over 50 seminars in the U.S. and Canada on tilt-up design and construction.<\/p>\n
Don served as chair of ACI Committee 551, Tilt-Up Concrete Construction.\u00a0 During his tenure as chairman, the committee completed the report \u201cTilt-Up Concrete Structures\u201d.\u00a0 This report was published by ACI in 1992 and is still referenced today.\u00a0 He was a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute and a member of The American Society of Civil Engineers and was a registered professional engineer in Ohio.\u00a0 Don was called out of retirement to assist the TCA in the development of the tilt-up field supervisor certification program.\u00a0 He was also the recipient of the Peter Courtois Memorial Award, the highest honor bestowed by the TCA, for his contributions in the formation of the association.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
